NEW FREIGHT FLOW
A new freight flow now operates over the Sea Wall, worked by Colas Rail Freight, the weekly trains transports timber from Teignbridge on the Heathfield Branch (near Newton Abbot) to Chirk in North Wales. The trains are scheduled to operate for three years starting in December 2011.

| In conjunction with weekend engineering work between Teignmouth and Newton Abbot on 18-19 February 2012, two rakes of loaded sleeper wagons were operated between Fairwater Yard, Taunton and Hackney Yard, Newton Abbot on 17 February. The trains worked by Freightliner Heavy Haul operated as 6Y36, the 09.52 Fairwater-Hackney powered by No. 66598 and 6Y37, the 15.01 Fairwater to Hackney powered by No. 66617. The second train is seen storming past Dawlish Warren on its way west. CJM |

| The new Colas Rail Freight log flow from Teignbridge loading base on the Newton Abbot to Heathfield line to Chirk in North Wales will attract a lot of interest this summer, especially with the trains operating times along the Sea Wall section. On 11 January 2012, the loaded train, 6Z51 the 14.41 Teignbridge to Chirk is seen crossing Cockwood Harbour in the last rays of afternoon sun. Motive power is provided by Class 66/8 No. 66847, which has to date powered every train of this flow. CJM |

| Running several hours later than originally planed a Derby-based Network Rail test train traversed the Dawlish Sea Wall at lunch time on 11 January 2012. The train, 1Z13, 12.08 Plymouth to Derby was formed of Class 37 No. 37607, cars 72630, 977985, 977997 and 5981 with Class 37 No. 37606 on the rear. The train is seen approaching Rockstone Bridge.
